Under 18's Score For Fun In Their 5 Goal Thrashing Of Swindon New College
South West Counties Youth League
Saturday 16th November 2019
Bridgwater Town FC u18’s 5 (Harry Scott 2 Callum Watts 2, Merson Ham)
Swindon New College 1
With a number of absentees, seven U16 players formed the large majority of the match day squad.
Inevitably this great opportunity for the younger players generated a few irregular actions mixed with some neat moves.
Overall, it was a generally quiet performance from the team but with enough quality moments between periods to score five goals:
Scott followed up a Watts & Coppin attack to side foot home a neat finish 1-0.
Coppin with good control from McKenna approach play, fed Watts to finish 2-0.
Scott got his brace in a good personal performance 3-0.
A nice passage of play from back to front capped off by Watts with a delicate chip from close range 4-0.
Ham feinted the keeper to commit one side then eased the ball past to the other 5-0.
The game could have offered more home side goals, but a few uncharacteristic misses kept the scoreline stable.
The exposure for the school boys will help them gain valuable experience moving forwards as getting more game time bodes well for the foundations of the side. Callum Chivers, Shay Allen, Scott, Cottrill & Mahdy edging the consistency charts, with Ham and McKenna making effective contributions.
Powell, Hendy and Newman did ok defensively; some neater distribution will develop their all round game. New College did manage a consolation goal, which to their credit as they maintained their resolve and had a number of attacks that required defensive intervention.
Next up, is an away trip to Weymouth on Saturday 23rd November to face Champion Sports Academy at Redlands Community Sports Hub. KO 10:30
